God wants us to regard Him as our heavenly "Father," a loving being who has chosen us to be His sons and followers. Romans 8:14-17a says: "For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, `Abba! Father!' The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs-heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ." As sons of God, we need to live in appreciation for that blessed relationship and try to do good works out of a thankful heart.
Consider also 1 Corinthians 6:19b-20: "You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." Here again we are reminded that God has done something spectacular for us. What more motivation do we need to attempt to please Him and live the Christian life that the Bible describes?
