The Error of Common Grace
Common Grace is pure Arminianism and denies the perfection of God, the immutability of God, the indivisibility of God and the simplicity of God. Scripture however is not without discernment on this matter and meets it head on in James 1:16-17. Do not err, my beloved brethren. Every good and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. We are taught here that my beloved brethren make an error here. The error is that they read into the good and perfect gifts of God, a mercy, love and grace for all men head for head as God gives these bounties of providence to all men head for head. But the error is that we are then saying that there are variables in God with regard to these things. Two mercies, two loves and two graces. One that is infinite eternal and unchangeable and one that is temporal, limited and changeable. The scripture, however tells us that this is an error and a wrong conclusion. There is to be no confusing soteriology with providence. No teaching of variables or variations in God which the doctrine of Common Grace does. Grace is particular, His mercy endures forever and nothing can separate the believer from God's love. (Brian Crossett)
